29.09.2017

The 2017 ENACTUS World Cup on student entrepreneurship, start-ups and innovation has concluded in London. The annual event was established to promote and award projects that improve the lives of the world's socially vulnerable. More than three thousand students from 36 countries participated in the 2017 championships.

Kazakhstan was represented at the World Cup by the Kazakh Humanitarian Juridical and Innovations University (KazHJIU), from the city of Semey. Team KazHJIU was the ENACTUS Kazakhstan National Champion for 2017 after beating 29 other Kazakh universities and around 90 social projects. This secured their position at the World Cup in London.

At the ENACTUS World Cup, team KazHJIU placed third in its league ahead of hundreds of talented peers from other countries. The projects submitted by the Kazakh students were aimed at addressing unemployment and business development problems in rural communities in the East Kazakhstan region; providing employment opportunities for the homeless on farms; and creating the School of Courage and the School of Survival for teenagers in Semey.

As part of the ENACTUS World Cup, a festival showcasing the culture and traditions of participant countries was organised at ExCel London. The display set up by the KazHJIU students promoted a range of Kazakh culture, including national souvenirs and books about Kazakhstan. A performance by the renowned Kazakh dombra player, Aibek Bekbosynov, was a highlight of the festival. He performed musical compositions by well-known Kazakh composers and won the applause of the participants and visitors of the event.
