As part of his visit to Astana, Sir Alan Duncan held meetings with Mr Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, and Mr Kairat Abdrakhmanov, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan.

During their meeting, Mr Abdrakhmanov and Sir Alan discussed a wide range of issues around bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom. The meeting also focused on implementing trade, economic, and investment agreements, as well as cooperation between the two countries in ensuring a successful EXPO-2017 and launch of the Astana International Financial Center.

The two sides discussed the most pressing issues on the international agenda, focusing particularly on Kazakhstan’s non-permanent membership and upcoming chairmanship on the UN Security Council. Both parties discussed the situation in Syria in detail, including various aspects of the Astana process, which is supported by President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
