On 24th - 29th August, a football team from the Tansholpan orphanage of Karagandy, Kazakhstan, visited London as a prize for having won an annual football competition called the ‘Towards our Dreams’ tournament.
During their visit, the young sportsmen attended a match between Chelsea and Everton at the legendary Stamford Bridge, before meeting the star players that had won last season’s Premier League.
The match presented the children with an unforgettable experience and great impressions. They actively supported the hosts, spoke with a number of Chelsea fans, and felt the real atmosphere of true English football first-hand.
Following the match, the Embassy organised for the children a meeting with their heroes – the players of Chelsea FC. Players such as Gary Cahill, David Luiz, César Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso, Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante, Willian, Alvaro Morata, and Thibaut Courtois signed autographs for the children, before taking photographs with them.
On the final day of their visit, the young sportsmen met with Kazakh Ambassador to the UK Erlan Idrissov, and the staff of the Embassy. The children shared their impressions and spoke about their plans, before thanking the Embassy for its support. Mr Erlan Idrissov wished the children good health, success in their studies and great achievements in sport.
The ‘Towards our Dreams’ football tournament is held annually among children from the orphanages of Kazakhstan. The winners of the tournament get the opportunity to visit a football match from a top championship, and to meet with players from a top football club from around the world. The tournament is organised by the ‘Bauyrzhan’ charity organisation.
